The Butler Company History

The Butler Company was founded in Columbus, Ohio in 1953 by William A. Butler. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, the company continued growing and expanding its service areas and sales territories. In the 1960’s and 1970’s The Butler Company continued to expand its reach in the veterinary market, opening branches and telecenters throughout the United States east of the Mississippi. Changes in ownership from William A. Butler to Narco Scientific in 1972 and then to Stephen A. Ritt in 1975 set the stage for the many changes that placed The Butler Company in a prominent position in the veterinary supply marketplace.

During the 1980s and 1990s Stephen A. Ritt, and later, Stephen A. Ritt, Jr. led and grew the Company poising it for further growth and expansion. In the late 1990s, the company, lead by Howard Deputy, CEO, Kevin Vasquez, COO, and Mac McNeil, CFO, experienced amazing growth and success in the veterinary distribution industry. In 2002, The Butler Company acquired DVM Manager, a veterinary practice management software company. Kevin Vasquez now leads Butler Animal Health Supply as our Chairman, President and CEO.
